Cardi B continues her history-making ways. On Sunday (April 15), just one day after she bodied her performance at the 2018 Coachella, Billboard reported that the rapper’s debut album Invasion of Privacy had made her the fifth-ever female rapper to earn a No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
As was previously reported, Cardi’s debut LP moved 255,000 equivalent album units on its way to the No. 1 spot on the hallowed Billboard album chart, with a pretty staggering these days 103,000 of those units being actual complete album-buys. Now, we know she’s only the fifth female MC to ever hold down the top spot.
Previous female MC’s with No. 1 albums include the likes of Nicki Minaj (Pink Friday, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded), Eve (Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady), Foxy Brown (Chyna Doll) and, of course, the great Lauryn Hill (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill). Needless to say, she’s in some dope company.
Cardi’s winning big, and it doesn’t look like she’s got any plans of slowing up, even taking steps to expand the Bardi brand. In a recent interview with Beats 1 Radio’s Ebro Darden, the Bronx MC revealed plans to launch a line with Fashion Nova.
“I know that a lot of people cannot afford expensive shit,” Cardi said at the time. “Nobody got $400, $500 for a damn shirt, so everything’s going to be affordable. I want people to look good, to look high-end with a good budget price, and this is the perfect opportunity. So I’m excited about that.”
